What Was Updated for the 2017 GMC Yukon?

Many changes have been made in the 2017 Yukon. Some features have been discontinued while others have been added or upgraded. Four exterior colors have been discontinued: Bronze Alloy Metallic, Light Steel Gray Metallic, Dark Forest Green Metallic, and Midnight Amethyst Metallic. In their place comes the Dark Sapphire Blue Metallic. Four front-active aero shutters have been made a standard feature on each Yukon model. Designed to enhance aerodynamics by automatically closing while you're driving fast, then opening again to allow airflow to cool the engine, these shutters are invisible from the outside. The driver and front passenger seats are now heated and ventilated as standard features on the Denali and SLT trims. The interior backlighting is now Blue Ice rather than red. Now standard on the Denali trim is the Head-Up Display. The rear seat accessory headphones are gone, but digital headphones have been added. A second USB port has been added on the console back, and it's capable of charging an iPad up to 2.1 amps. IntelliLink (IO5 & IO6) audio systems can now enable Teen Driver with the 2017 Yukon.

History of the GMC Yukon

First appearing in 1993, the GMC Yukon was the renamed Jimmy and given four doors in 1995 instead of the previous two-door models. The 1995 version had a shorter wheelbase than the Suburban. In 1998, the Yukon came out with a 5.7-liter Vortec V-8 engine that delivered 255 horsepower and 33 pounds per foot of torque. 1999 saw the two trim levels, the SLE and SLT, riding on aluminum wheels, with an AM/FM stereo system, a cassette player, and air conditioning that made driving a pleasure. The year 2000 saw big changes in the Yukon's re-engineering and reshaping. Built on Chevrolet/GMC's truck chassis, the Yukon gained disc brakes on all four wheels. A 4.8L V-8 engine was smaller but put out an extra twenty-five horsepower. Also available that year was a 5.3-liter, V-8 engine that delivered 285 horsepower. Year by year, the Yukon gained such improvements as an optional third-row seat with a 50/50 split fold. The outdated cassette players were replaced with CD players. In 2007, a new 5.3-liter, Vortec V-8 engine output 320 horsepower and debuted the Active Fuel Management system. A revised grille and headlight housing perked up the front end appearance. In 2009, a six-speed automatic transmission was paired up with that 5.3-liter, V8 engine. Again in 2015, the engine was upgraded to the new Ecotec3 that replaced the Vortec line and incorporated noise-reducing features that provide for a quieter ride in the cabin.
